The problem with Tucson

There is two utility trucks working on a pole between 200 and 300 south Pantano. They have men at work signs starting at 500 north Pantano. And forcing traffic into one lane at 300 north Pantano. Right in front of Kohls, right before the intersection. So even those cars that would be turning onto Broadway are forced to merge into one lane for two blocks for no reason. And all this is happening at noon when people are rushing around durning their lunch hour trying to get things done. And the 5 guys working? They are standing around eating and talking.

I have seen this before. Having a force merge before an intersection for work being done after the light. All you have to do is put up a sign that "right lane must turn right". So the third of the traffic that is turning does not have to merge. And for people that are caught not paying attention can simply turn anyways instead of holding up traffic, causing accidents, frustration, and delay. And there are many other ways to ease traffic flow, spead up commerce and ease road rage.

Hi Taxi Mark,

YES! I'd like to add a pet peeve: why doesn't the city figure out a way to synchronize the lights on Speedway and Broadway? Going east and west with synchronized lights would be SO smart.

While I'm whining, I would wish for bus pull-outs, especially on he major roads.

I'm enjoying your blog. Keep up the nice work.
