As a “foodie”, I absolutely have an appreciation for the delectable culinary concoctions created by the professionally trained chefs at high quality establishments. One of my personal favorite summertime burger traditions is the regular rides my circle of friends make to our favorite cheeseburger place- the All American Burger in Seaford, NY (Long Island). A Long Island staple, I was first introduced to the All American as student while taking Driver’s Ed class in High School. This eating place is so well established on Long Island that all of the driving teachers at my High School would take all of their students to the All American during at least one of the lessons. Once we all got our licenses, trips to All American became a regular tradition and as the weather got nicer, we’d go on weekly “All American runs” as a large group.

A tiny shack on Merrick Road, the All American is wonderful because of its simplicity and uniqueness. In a world where lots of folks get their burgers at MacDonald’s or Burger King, it’s refreshing to see such a simple menu of basic fast food (cheeseburger, hot dog, fries, shakes etc.) in an authentic, non-corporate, and intimate setting. But this unassuming, extremely small business makes burgers with an extremely big taste.

The All American Burgers are fresh and juicy patties and served hot off the grill with melting, molten cheese dripping over the sides. The french fries are just as fresh and definitely taste like real potatoes (unlike the awful abominations created at Burger King and MacDonald’s) and are clearly the obvious compliment to a fresh burger.

With low prices and delicious burgers, shakes and fries, the All American often has long lines out the door- especially on clear summer evenings. The limted number of tables and benches that make up the outside seating patio are usually full and bursting with hungry patrons enjoying a greasy burger in the sunshine. But even when the line is long, nothing beats hanging out with a couple of friends, while enjoying an incredibly juicy burger in the warm summer air. All American Burger is definitely one of my favorite places to eat.
