Ten Ways To Get A Record Deal

While there is huge potential in viral marketing on the Internet for established acts, creating critical mass remains elusive for new talent. It’s not just a matter of built it and they will come. Before you can have a Field of Dreams moment, the public has to first know you even exist. There is no doubt the music industry has been profoundly impacted by the Internet but for the near future at least, the best way to become a recognizable, revenue-producung singer or musician is to sign with a record label. Labels have the deep pockets necessary to promote your music across all platforms to reach the widest audience possible. Here are the Top 10 ways to get signed with a label.

Play showcases at music clubs. In every major American city, record industry A&R people constantly scour local music clubs looking for the next Cold Play or Green Day.

Write your own music. While talented singers and musicians are always a sought after commodity, those who write their own material are especially prized. Taylor Swift was signed as a songwriter before she was given a deal to record her own album. Singer-songwriters have a unique style because they perform from within and labels are most interested in performers that don’t sound like anyone else. And if you need unique instrumentals to go with your project then you should head over to beats on sale

Team up with a partner. If you write lyrics, find a composer. If melodies are your strength, find a songwriter. Brooks and Dunn, Lennon and McCartney, Perry and Tyler show that the sum can be greater than its parts.

Cut a demo. Recording a demo doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Go acoustic. Especially if you’re a singer-songwriter, less can be more.

Plan your own showcase. Offer to play a free gig and a local club and send out invitations.

Send a digital resume. Create a website that appeals to the eyes and ears. Rent a professional digital recorder and make a high-quality video to upload onto your site. That way your music can speak for itself.

Get an agent. If you don’t feel comfortable promoting yourself, get an agent to shill on your behalf. True, it means giving up 10% of potential earnings but that value of landing that first deal is priceless.

Participate in a Contest. You don’t have to win to make a good impression. Some of the most successful acts to come out of American Idol did not win the competition.

Do your homework. Keep abreast of what the different labels are in the market for and the names of the current A&R reps. People move around a lot in the music business so make sure the person you send a demo package to is still at the label.

Keep practicing. The more you perform, the better your skills become and the more professional you’ll sound.

And for a little more shameless advertising, if you want that professional sound without a professional price-tag then go to beats for sale

Beat Maker Software

Beat Sequencer -

What the heck is a music sequencer? Is that how you make beats?
In the music world, a sequencer is the division of bars and measures in a matrix like grid. This grid acts as a place holder and each slot in the grid acts as a trigger or piece of combined triggers that plays sounds when the timeline reaches that part of the sequence.
Confusing as heck eh?

I know it’s hard to explain easily so let’s do it like this. Most beat makers start at a 4/4 with 1/16th quantizing default. This means that for every bar of music, the bar is split up into 4 small pieces, and in each of those 4 pieces, there are 4 slots open to drop sounds into on the grid.
So one bar has room for 16 sounds (4/4 at 1/16th) that are played in ‘sequence’ one after the next along a time line. If you filled up all 16 slots you’d simply have a machine gun sounding repetition. If you placed a sound on every fourth slot, you’d get a house music thump (assuming you used a drum sound)…

Now picture one of these ‘bars’ sitting on a stack of 16 layers of bars in an interface where you control each layer and bar, and they all overlap each other.
So each layer has it’s own 16 slots per bar – and each layer has it’s own sounds. One layer can be a kick drum, and the next layer can be a snare or a highhat.
Now imagine if on each of those 16 layers you can open up a separate panel where you get 10 more layers for the bar, this is commonly known as a drum kit, where there are a collection of 10 (or more/less as it ranges per software) sounds that compliment each other well.Links make music:

This drum kit is one bar, on one layer, but it has 10 layers within it – so in total you have 16 slots going horizontally (1/16th quantizing), and 10 layers going vertically (10 sounds per kit). That gives you a grid of 160 spots to place sounds, and when you arrange them right, and choose a proper tempo, you can achieve pretty much any music you want with the drum kits.
Now picture the 10 drum sounds being OTHER sounds, not drums but voice effects, alarms, samples, quick scratches, beatbox sounds, etc. You can start to see how versatile this grid pattern can be.

with this beat maker software you can create cutting edge beats that are totally original because you are the mix master. There is thousands and thousands of samples that you can pick from that have all been professionally mastered and all you have to do is pick the sort of style that you want whether it be rap and hip hop or dance music the scope is endless!

Sampling And Beat Making Like Pete Rock

Beat making pioneer Pete Rock is a master of all beat making’s core methods and processes. His drum work and sense of timing is top notch. His arrangement skills, especially his approach to spacing, are fantastic. And of course, his ear for sample source material is fantastic. But let it be known: Pete Rock is always at his best when he’s chopping and sampling. He has Sampling.

On the beat for “Trouble Man” (from off of the critically acclaimed, but slightly overlooked, Inspectah Deck solo album Uncontrolled Substance), Pete Rock uses a chop scheme that plays teaser with the sampled measures. With a close listen, you can hear Pete playing the chops that line the balance of the beat. What stands out about Pete’s playing is that he never quite lets the full measure of the chopped bass samples open up. Instead, he punches them in and pulls them back, right before they turn over and seemingly play their full length. In this way, Pete Rock is not only a creating “a cycle of chops,” he’s actually playing the samples as if they are single notes—and phrases of notes—with a deft touch, akin to a bassist controlling his bass guitar; only Pete Rock’s instrument is a sampling drum machine.

The technique Pete Rock employs in “Trouble Man” involves the process of “cutting off” the sample with another sample (usually a similar piece of the same source material) or a blank drum pad. In other words, he’s using either a pad of a different piece of the same sample, or he’s using a blank pad of silence (a drum pad with no actual sound assignment) to further truncate the already chopped samples he uses to build the core groove of the beat.

Using cut off pad assignments was the precursor to the “mute group” function that now appears on later model Akai MPCs like the MPC 4000 and MPC 2500. The “cut off” technique was popular (if not necessary) for two main reasons. First, it afforded beat makers pinpoint accuracy and control over their samples in the sequencing phase of a beat. Second, it allowed beat makers to fine tune and further truncates already chopped samples, in real time. This allowed for more flexible and fluid arrangement possibilities. And this was key, as it prompted beat makers to play and arrange their samples—in a sequence—from off of the feel and vibe rather than off of a cold numbers approach to programming (a programming trend that plagues many of today’s beat makers).

Finally, it’s worth noting how Pete Rock’s chop work and drum work actually parallels the concept of tension and release. As noted, Pete Rock uses a chop pattern that never lets the full length of the samples play out, but instead, keeps them as sound-stabs and sustained sound-stabs. He also uses a rapid fire, 1/16 hi-hat scheme that ticks through the beat, pushing it and creating in it a sense (mood) of urgency. Through his use of an aggressive “cut off” chop pattern and a hi-hat scheme that counts down and invokes images of a high-speed car chase, Pete builds up a tension throughout the beat that isn’t released until the hook (chorus section) comes in with relief, in the form of a sampled strings and piano phrase. You can also Buy Beats beats here.

The entire song is taken in the night time, It starts with the little smoke,Behind that, look at the chrome black color painted luxurious BMW before taking a look at the hot jlo.She is still looking hot and nice even at her 41 years age, when she got down from that BMW.

In this Video She played triple roles, One as a aggressive hot dancer and another as a celebrity looking at the club dancers and another dancer in club role, They showed both the characters with the great style, But celebrity jlo is never looking good throughout the video may be the costume and the hair style made it really worse. But the dancer jlo is spectacular with the great style of costume and hair style made her to look marvelous. Now its turn of Pitbull, He started rapping around four hot girls. The third role of jlo came mid in the song and made some serious dance which made others to dance.

While all the three characters are different the song is entirely is entirely co-ordinated with all the three characters along with pitbull.

Throughout the song the three roles are maintained greatly till the end. This song is getting more popular due its beat music and jlo’s rhythmic voice. On the hole its a great pop song probably one the bests of Jennifer Lopez. She made great dance in this song which is pretty extra-ordinary for a 41 years aged woman,She is maintaining her body and stiffness extremely well.

Words by the producer in MTV News:
When asked by MTV News, “What was it like working with Lopez?”, RedOne replied: “Let’s face it: With J.Lo, you have to go big or go home”. He said that to make a song that sounded right for Lopez he would need “dance, parties and her Latina heritage”. Consequently the duo came up with “On the Floor” which also features a rap from Pitbull. Commenting on the studio process, RedOne said, “She’s a dancer. She can sing. I was really amazed, and I had so much fun working with her, her energy and everything about her is a star, and it was natural for me to do what we did.

Bad Advice Will Never Make You A Better Singer

What came first, the chicken or the amazingly gifted singing voice?

This might become an important question to ponder when pursuing singing lessons. There have been hundreds of thousands of students who have become disenchanted with the prospect of singing well, let alone singing professionally, simply because they took the wrong approach to learning how. and it has to do with the classical mindset of singing- something still being taught to aspiring singers in high schools and colleges today.

And there is a better way to become good. There are sing lessons that go beyond the classical box.

A conversation with a good friend of mine, a classically trained singer, made it painfully obvious that I needed to address the “natural range” conspiracy. He recently explained to me that, for the amount of money I spent on CD and DVD singing lessons, I could have had 10 real lessons with a vocal instructor. He was also skeptical of the claims my virtual instructors were making about increasing people’s vocal range almost immediately. Digging a little further, after I bragged about my own progress and increased abilities, he argued that it’s futile (more like “improper”) to pursue a greater vocal range.

To this day I still don’t know what’s futile about the fact that I can now sing higher than I ever could before. He pointed out that there are successful singers in all vocal registers (bass, baritone, tenor, etc), and that you need to work within your range. His advice had the faint residue of a hopeless “if you’re not gifted, get over it” kind of tone.

Here’s my big point. Before analyzing where you’re at as a singer, and deciding what box you’re going to fit in, you should first learn to use your voice- fully and freely. I mean, does anybody know what their “natural range” is? Do You? If not, how would you go about figuring it out?

Here, this helps: IT DOESN”T MATTER! It’s been my experience, by and far, that this issue has discouraged more would-be singers than it’s ever helped. The truth of the matter is that you need to focus on how to use the full range of your voice, and when you do, and as you develop your voice, you’ll see immense improvement in both range and tone quality.

This is why the coaches I choose to listen to confidently guarantee at least an Octave increase in vocal range in a relatively short amount of time! This is also why I’m hitting notes that I’ve never been able to hit before, and why, after 2 or 3 years of learning now, I’m still just as motivated to use those same old CD’s I bought at first- because I am still getting better, and more and more I’m becoming the singer I’ve always wanted to be!

Start getting good advice to learn singing.

UK Rapper Deeze has been making noise with his last three mixtapes making enough noise that he has recorded an EP for Wolftown Recordings, performed live at the Eastern Electronic Festival in Birmingham and had over 10,000 hits on his debut music video ‘Big Tingz’. It’s all going off… Bring Da Ruckus sent Alex Davello to get us this exclusive interview with one of Midland’s brightest hopes.

What part of the UK are you from and what’s the Hip-Hop scene like there?
I’m from the West Midlands and I rep Wolverhampton city! We’ve got a good ratio of talent for the population size, there’s bare sick man/women spittin, makin beats, DJ’ing etc.

Describe your style and tell us what you think makes you stand out.
On a level fam I hate questions like this…..I aint too comfortable talking my self up I’d rather jus walk the walk ya get me! But all I will say is a lot of man say it but I really am different.

What would you say has been your biggest achievement in Hip-Hop so far?
That’s a good question man; I think probably getting over 10,000 hits on the video for the single “Big Tingz” from my EP “Late Nights Early Mornings”. Especially since its was my first professional video man that felt real good to get that kind of support and love from people all over the world.

N-Dubz, Chipmunk, Tinie Tempah, Wiley, Tinchy Stryder have all enjoyed mainstream success. Do you think that British artists can capitalize on this now?
I think those kind of acts you mentioned are paving a way for people of all ages to start to get into hip hop/rap/grime. My thinking is people who want something a little deeper or more rugged will find them selves looking to the underground.

When it comes to music production do you think that UK acts are more open to different styles and vibes than US acts?
Honestly I wouldn’t wanna generalise like that but I do think everyone (globally) is more open to different styles now, music like fashion has no boundary’s anymore man a mixing all kind of styles together.

Let’s talk about your latest project. What producers are involved in this and are there any guest artists involved?
I’ve got so many projects poppin man… the producers I’m currently working with are man like Tricksta, Stealf, Jabba Tha Cut, DLS, Rediculus from Chicago, Juttla, Sticky Digits, there’s bare man. I don’t really collaborate with others rappers often at all for my own reasons but I love working with vocalists of all kinds. I’ve got songs on up an coming releases with singer Early B from reggae band Progression, all three vocalists from soul/r’n’b group Never 2 Late as well as vocals indie singer Ed Davies. There are bare people I’m currently networking with man, I’m building something big.

What Gear Does Legendary Rap Producer Dr Dre Use In His Lab?

From his beginnings with World Class Wreckin’ Cru to his involvement with N.W.A and his two classic solo albums, Dr Dre will be remembered as one of the most important beat makers of all time. Want to make beats like a pro? Find out how Dre does it.

Sounds

On his classic 1992 album The Chronic, Dre introduced the G-Funk (gangsta funk) sound. He became famous for his style of beat which often utilized studio musicians replaying sounds from funk music, instead of sampling directly from 1970s/80s bands such as Parliament/Funkadelic.

The way he mixed synthesizers with older style rap production was a huge influence on hip hop music for many years. The long synth sounds on hits like Nuthin’ But A G Thang or Dre Day make them instantly recognisable as Dr Dre beats.

Dre stresses the importance of EQing (equalizing) drums properly. He admits to using the same drum sounds on different tracks on an album, but they’re EQed to sound totally different so you wouldn’t notice. Rap fashionista Kanye West famously copied the drums from Dre’s song Xxplosive on the beat for This Can’t Be Life.

Sampler/Sequencer

Dr Dre uses an AKAI MPC 3000. Actually he claims to use 4 or 5 of them at a time, just because he is too lazy to swap the discs out.

If you are unable to find the outdated MPC 3000 you can get a MPC 1000. It has all the functionality you need to record and sequence samples. Despite the lower model number it is actually newer then the 3000 and has better features like compact flash card storage instead of old fashioned floppy discs and more upgradable memory for increased sample storage.

The MPC 500 is similar but missing some features. However it is portable. The latest MPC is the AKAI MPC 5000 which can do some cool things but is much more expensive. These days many producers use a strictly software setup, the situation has changed a lot since Dr Dre started out making beats.

Software

The software Dre uses is Pro Tools, the industry standard. However there are a ton of cheaper sequencing programs available, including FL Studio and Acid Pro. There are a lot of choices but any sequencing program is capable of helping you create amazing music, it just depends how you use it and what sounds/samples you put in.

Headphones

Of course Dr Dre endorses Beats By Dre headphones. The Studio models are quite expensive however there are some cheaper ones. Real rap producers don’t use headphones; they use monitor speakers. But the headphones look nice.

Chair

Dre spends long hours working in the studio so he needs a chair that offers comfort and support. That’s why he uses a high back leather executive chair from Boss. Rappers, musicians and other producers love to come and chill out at Dre’s studio because the seating arrangement is so great.

Toothpaste

No discussion of music production equipment would be complete without a note on toothpaste. Dre has been a long time proponent of dental hygiene. He likes to use AquaFresh Fluoride Toothpaste to prevent cavities and leave his breath fresh. Of course he also gets his teeth professionally whitened to keep him looking his best for music videos and red carpet events.

So just follow these simple tips and model every aspect of your life after Dr Dre The Great. You will be making a splash as a Grammy award winning rap producer in no time. Good luck!
